2002 Nēnē Award Ceremony

Louis Sachar's book Holes was honored at the Nēnē Award Press Conference on April 12, 2002. The Press Conference was held at the Hawai'i State Library courtyard. Distinguished guests, student award winners, students, parents, librarians and teachers all gathered at 9:30 a.m. in the beautiful area. Student emcees from Aina Haina Elementary School welcomed the crowd.

They introduced students from Washington Middle School, who read the description of the book Holes, and Louis Sachar's acceptance letter for the 2001 Nēnē Award.

Mr. Sachar had also sent a response to frequently asked questions about Holes, and the students portrayed Mr. Sachar answering reporters.

Then Mrs. LoBuglio, Washington Middle School Librarian, and coordinator of this year's Essay and Poster Contest, announced the Essay Winners.

Each of the winners read their essay. The fourth grade contest ended with a tie for first place!
