R.E.A.D. (Read, Enjoy, Analyze, Discuss) for NĒNĒ is an enrichment activity designed to promote reading and discussion of literature suitable for grades 4 to 6. Participating students are encouraged to read the books and discuss them with other students and classes from across the state, and then vote for their favorite. Books featured are taken from the Nēnē Award Recommended Reading List. The annual Nēnē Award is supported by the Hawai'i State Department of Education and the Hawai'i State Public Library System (HSPLS).

The Award is given each year in Hawai'i, and voting for it generally takes place in February; the ceremony is being planned for Thursday, April 29, 2010.
